Heading to court against Texada approval

Hi folks,

On October 27, 28, 29  the first of our two court challenges goes before a judge.  If you know anyone who opposes this coal port approval for Texada, and would like to help create an obstacle to this approval by contributing a few bucks, please tell them it would be welcome.

The cost of this legal challenge is $10,000 with West Coast Environmental Law chipping in 50%, so VTACC's cost will be $5000.  We now have $600 in the pot, so many thanks to you who have put a cheque in the mail!

The government prevents charities from being very politically active, so VTACC is not a charity, but we are all-volunteer with zero overhead.  Every dime you contribute goes to this battle.

If that cheque is still cluttering up your pocket, drop it into the mail!  Cheques can be made out to VTACC, and mailed to

Why?

VTACC is taking the provincial government to court for everyone who objects to the provincial government bending its own laws to fast-track their approval this coal port, and a daily stream open-topped coal barges.

At this stage, we see no other option than to take the government to court.
The Provincial government has ignored evidence of ongoing coal contamination; the minister responsible called photos of the coal contaminated beach "shading on the image."
The Provincial government has rejected the pleas of public health officials for a Health Impact Assessment.

It has dismissed citizens’ and First Nations’ call for an independent Environmental Assessment of this project, and refused to apply its own pollution prevention laws under the Environmental Management Act.

We cannot sit back and watch while this massive coal export facility is illegally authorized without adequate review.

Thanks everyone, and please forward this on to friends and relations you think may be interested.
