help fund the cost of a court cast to hold government of Canada to their environmental promises

For details of the claim in their lawsuit, see
https://raventrust.com/campaigns/wetsuweten/

Two Wet’suwet’en House groups of the Likhts’amisyu Clan are taking
Canada to court for violating their s.7 Charter rights to life,
liberty, and security of the person. By asserting their rights,
these Wet’suwet’en Houses are taking legal action to hold Canada
accountable to their global climate agreements.

A win for these Wet’suwet’en groups is a win for us all. /Misdzi
Yikh v Canada/has the potential to put in place systemic safeguards
so projects and policies could only be adopted based on an
assessment of future climate impacts now before it’s too late.

There is a video you can watch, and a history of the claim and access to
documents filed with the court. There is also a "Donate" button that
leads to a secure site that you can use.  It's also possible to send
them an e-transfer (and you send them your contact information so they
can send you an income tax receipt for your donation). Or you can mail
them a cheque.

I received this email appeal for funds, from RAVEN, a registered charity in Canada and in the US.     raventrust.com    I don't see any other way to get our governments to stop our fossil fuel "resource" being "developed" and used, and "growing our economy" - and also continuing to contribute largely to further climate change. They have to be stopped, or at least slowed down, soon!

It's not too late to support their critical climate litigation. This, it seems to me, is a First Nations legal case that will benefit everyone, wordwide, if it is successful in stopping the wild and crazy expansion of fossil fuel use we seem to be experiencing, and whose effects we will continue to experience.

Dear Peter,

Today, the Wet’suwet’en Chiefs are back in Federal Court in Vancouver, as the federal government makes its third attempt to strike their landmark climate case, Misdzi Yikh v. Canada. This case goes to the heart of whether Canada has a constitutional duty to meaningfully address climate change, and whether failing to reduce greenhouse gas emissions puts people’s lives, health, and security at risk. While brought by Wet’suwet’en Hereditary Chiefs, the outcome could set a powerful precedent that strengthens climate accountability for everyone in Canada. If you have already donated—thank you, and please consider forwarding this email to five friends who may be able to give.

This is a pivotal moment, and it’s not too late to help support their litigation. Every donation helps sustain a case that could benefit communities across the country now and for generations to come. If you believe in a climate safe future grounded in government accountability, please consider making a donation today to support the Wet’suwet’en Chiefs in court today.

 With thanks,
Shane Moffatt
Campaigns Director, RAVEN

P.S. Wet’suwet’en Chiefs are back in court today defending their landmark climate litigation. Give now to help cover the cost of the legal fees.
